Amy’s passion for aviation runs in the family.

Amy comes to us with a solid corporate upbringing and an entrepreneurial drive. Prior to joining our team, Amy was a magazine publisher in NC. When moving to Virginia to be closer to family Amy decided to marry her passion for aviation with her business management skills and join us as our flight school manager and the Director of Business Development. Amy has 32 hours on the books and if she can ever take the time she will finish her PSEL. Currently, Amy heads the FAA sUAS Part 107 Program for Horizon. And, her love for flying runs in the family, as Amelia Earhart is her notable maternal cousin.

Holley Anderson

Holley's aviation goals take flight.

Holley has been with Horizon for 2 years and in that time became a VA Certifying Official and a PSI Proctor. Holley grew up Navy and was first introduced to the world of aviation though her dad who was a maintenance officer. Because her dad once ran the Oceana Air Show, she grew up looking to the sky and has aspirations to fly charters in the near future. Holley is a trusted member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of The 99’s and is your go-to for anything needed at Horizon.

Mike Pinner

Mike had a childhood dream to fly.

He came to Horizon Flight Center in 2008 for a Discovery Flight and his passion for flying took off from there. Now Mike has an ATP, Learjet type, CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, IGI, and he is also a gold seal flight instructor. He has instructed half of the HFC staff at one time or another and helped each of them earn their ratings.

Shane Davis

Shane was 11 years active duty.

He spent that time in an EP3 Air Reconnaissance Aircraft. Post active duty, Shane pursued his dream of becoming a CFI, CFII with Horizon Flight Center and earning his CMEL. In 2017 Shane was appointed Assistant Chief.

Michael "Groot" Groothousen

Mike grew up around aviation and has always had a passion for flight.

Groot is a Naval Academy and University of Maryland graduate. He is also a Naval Aviator with 11+ years in aviation. Mike has executed various levels of aviation training and deployed in combat flying SH-60B helicopters. He earned his CFI, CFII and MEI at Horizon and joined the team in 2016.

Jason Carrier

Jason has been involved in general and military aviation for 17 years.

Jason trained as a flight instructor at Delta State University in Mississippi and competed as a member of the university flight team. He earned his MEI with Horizon in 2014 and holds CFI, CFII, and Remote Pilot Certificates as well as a BS in Commercial Aviation. He is currently a Naval Flight Officer flying F/A-18s and has completed several combat deployments. Jason is excited to train and get to know his students here at Horizon Flight Center.

Jason Vetter

Jason has been involved with aviation for 18 years.

Jason is an Air Force veteran and also an A&P Technician with experience on F-15s, Lear Jets, and King Airs. He earned his B.S. in Aeronautics through Liberty University (LU) and is the first graduate of LU’s Flight Training Affiliate (FTA) program starting at 0 hours and earning all of the ratings. Jason started the program in January of 2014 and finished the program in December of 2016 by earning his MEI. As a resident Liberty expert, he is always willing to answer questions about the college courses associated with the LU FTA program.

Brittany Kingrey

Brittany is a self-described military wife, mother, and whovian.

Brittany trained as a flight instructor at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) working as a ground instructor and sim instructor. Brittany holds CFI, CFII, IGI, and Remote Pilot Certificates; she also has a BS in Political Science and a BS in Professional Piloting. She intends to continue her education and plans to stay in the aviation education community during her piloting career. Brittany looks forward to meeting and building lasting relationships with her students at Horizon Flight Center.

Duane Pennett

Duane is a Navy Veteran and a small business owner.

Duane took his first flight with a friend in 2009 and was hooked! After a slow start he earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 2014, and then decided it was time for a career change. Since earning his private certificate, he has gone on to earn his instructor ratings and is ready to help you achieve your aviation goals.

Aubrey Banks

Aubrey is a TarHeel.

Aubrey is a native of Currituck County in northeastern North Carolina. He has been a general aviation pilot for 40 years and a flight instructor for the past 5 years. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Aubrey retired from a sales management career and then became a flight instructor. He taught at Piedmont Flight Training in Winston-Salem and recently moved back to his original home place in lower Currituck County.

Robert "Trey" Walter

Trey is an economics major.

Trey has been flying at Horizon Flight Center for the past four years and has completed licenses up to CFII. He is currently a student at Christopher Newport University who is majoring in Economics. As a past student of Horizon, Trey looks forward to sharing his experience and the best flight training possible.

Tim Ribble

Tim is the President of local Chapter of EAA (The Experimental Aircraft Association).

Tim retired as a Nuclear Chief Test Engineer from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He built his own skyride in the form of an RV8. Tim is a part-time CFI with Horizon when not tinkering on his toy and has a love for aviation in every aspect that overflows onto each student with fervor.

Mark Tarn

Mark is a retired E2 Naval Flight Officer.

Mark came to Horizon in 2010 to pursue his IFR. Now Mark is CFI, AGI, COMM ME-land rated with aspirations for CFII and MEI. Mark is currently an E2 Hawkeye Simulator Instructor at Norfolk Navel Base teaching tactics and weapon systems employment.
